Overcoming Fear of Talking to Your Network Marketing Leads and Prospects

making phone calls to network marketing prospectsOne of the greatest challenges many network marketers face is overcoming a fear of contacting and actually talking to prospects live on the phone.

Some will do everything possible to stick with email or other less threatening forms of communication. This is caused in part by a lack of confidence, or a fear of talking to people about and MLM.

If you have a choice between sending an email to a new prospect, or calling that prospect on the phone right away, which is easier? For many, it is much easier to send that email and avoid the threat of being rejected “in person”.

What if the call doesn’t go well?

What if I say something wrong and turn the prospect off?

Those fears are genuine and deeply embedded in the minds of many who pursue a network marketing business. If you feel this way, and want to get past it, what will it take?

I believe that overcoming a fear of talking to prospects is more a matter of desire than anything else. Do you really want to make your network marketing business explode, and learn to be comfortable contacting and working with prospects personally?

I have two suggestions.

First, be familiar and very comfortable with your company’s products, business plan, and compensation. Know the answers to the basic questions (this is all you’ll usually get from most prospects, anyway). You don’t need to know it all, just enough to make it clear you’re in business and not just pursuing a hobby.

Then get with your sponsor, upline team, and sympathetic friends and practice. Get them to throw everything they can think of at you. Ask them to be hard on you – remember, this is just practice. I know role playing seems stupid, and quite frankly it can feel awkward. I know from experience, though, that doing this will help give you confidence and a better feel for “what to say” when the time comes.

Being afraid to talk to your network marketing leads and prospects will slow the growth of your business dramatically. This is one skill you must develop, one fear you must overcome to reach the top. Even if you are shy and uncomfortable talking to people you don’t know, you can learn to do this!
