When choosing to work at home there are a variety of things to avoid during your working hours. Anything that slows your work down or causes you to submit unacceptable work should be taken out of your schedule. Individuals who work from home tend to surround themselves with unhelpful situations that cause their work to go downhill. The key to avoiding this is to list all things that distract you and post them on your desk as a reminder.
The most common downfall of individuals who are working from their home is procrastination. It is very easy to fall into the trap of be lazy when you become your own boss. One of the first thoughts that comes to minds when you start working from your home is that you are able to choose your own schedule. This can cause havoc in your work. When you choose to push your work back, there is a great possibility that you will keep pushing it until you have no time at all to complete your work, then there is a great chance that you could get fired or not make enough to pay your bills.
Everyday distractions are hard to avoid when you are work at home. There are a variety of them, including taking too many breaks, phone calls, visitors, children, pets, television and hundreds more. Some distractions you cannot avoid, like kids. When you are working and tending to your children during the day, it can easily take away from your work and cause great amounts of stress. Another distraction that is hard to avoid is smoking. Individuals who smoke and have a job within their home, often find themselves going out for a smoke break numerous times throughout the day.
When you are working at home, there are various jobs that allow you to choose how much work you do. For instance, freelance writing. With these types of jobs, you can easily find yourself taking on too many projects then you can handle. When this happens its is likely that you will find yourself overworked and stressed or have projects left over that you can’t complete. When choosing your work, always make sure that you are familiar with how much work you can complete in one day, rather then choosing too much or to little.
Whether it is distractions or procrastination, it is important that you stay away from all these things to avoid failure in your career. When you work at home you can become easily stressed in these situations and really it is all up to you to prevent these things from happening. Be cautious and aware of what you are doing throughout your work day, as you can easily find yourself putting projects off or taking to long on your lunch break.
