MLM – Is MLM Right For You?
June 28, 2009

Is MLM (multi level marketing) the right type of home business for you? MLM, also called network marketing, has long been a popular opportunity choice for people who want to make extra money from home.
Many people have achieved six-figure incomes and raised themselves from “just getting by” to wealth with MLM. Others have worked their business hard for 3-5 years and now earn enough to stay home, enjoy freedom, and live the kind of life they desire.
Despite all the positives that MLM can offer, though, it does have a negative reputation with some people. Perhaps you have a friend who heard a story about someone who lost hundreds of dollars pursuing a “multilevel marketing opportunity”. Unfortunately, this does happen, and many of the stories could be true. Does that mean that MLM is a bad business, or a scam? Absolutely not.
MLM has been promoted and practiced in many different ways over the years, and some of the recruiting techniques people have used are shameful and embarrassing, to say the least. The entrepreneurs who work MLM as professionals know better and treat it as a real business.
The bad side of MLM recruiting includes:
- exaggerated income claims
- hyped up claims for product effectiveness
- pressure to “get in now” or miss out
- an obnoxious, in your face recruiting approach
Does any of this sound familiar? I’m sure you’ve encountered it at some point.
Now, put these tacky recruiting tactics behind you. Realize that MLM is really a legitimate business when approached in a professional manner. Let’s examine if MLM might be right for you.
- do you enjoy working with people?
- are you open to coaching and self-improvement?
- do you really have a strong desire to make money with your own business?
- are you willing to create a plan for success (with help), and stick to it for 3-5 years?
If so, MLM might be an excellent choice for you. There are two things you need to do.
First, choose a solid opportunity with a good track record, proven products, and a successful upline team that is willing to work directly with you. This will take some effort and time. Don’t jump into just anything that sounds good – skip the hype and look at the big picture with a critical eye.
Next, get started and consult your upline for help building a plan for success, based on your ultimate goals for your business. Don’t skip this step, because without laying this foundation first you’ll lack strength to punch through challenges and obstacles. These will happen. They happen to everyone. The winners in MLM are the ones who break through and overcome all challenges and obstacles to success.
Once you get started, stay focused and work your MLM business consistently. Don’t quit or jump around to different opportunities.
Successful people in MLM pick a solid business, make a plan, stick to it, and work hard to earn their success.

This is great, straight-forward information about MLM. Its funny, we always want to believe that everyone that is breathing is a prospect for our MLM business, but that is just not the case. I think that is why the obnoxious, arrogant, and hype-filled claims are made: We feel we have to “impress” everyone into joining.

Hi Eldon,
Your blog is very interesting & you make it for people who have little knowledge about MLM very interesting.
I noticed that we are very much into the same interests so I wanted to drop by and say hello. My name is Reginald & I am into this kind of business too. I also work for the Federal Govt but I look forward to retiring really soon.
The economy is really bad these days but unbeknownst to many, they can have financial stability thru MLM. Sadly, a lot of people think most MLMs are scams. If only they they’d open their eyes & try to understand MLM & its concepts better…I’m sure they’ll be on their way to financial freedom.
I hope more people will be educated about MLMs thru your blog.
Please Drop by my site & say hi! http://tinyurl.com/mesvrv

There is nothing I can say but agree that the post was really helpful to everyone. I am from the Philippines and chose to invest on a marketing company that is operating for 2 years now. I have witnessed how people make fortune recently. My personal goals and intention to help others prompted me to join the company called Unlimited Network of Opportunities or UNO (www.uno-corp.com). Though I have joined a getting 2 months now and doing this as part-time I began to enjoy and love the business.I also witnessed how people pressure prospects to join the company. The company is carrying organic products and I believe it was a convergence of top marketing minds in the country. Many thanks for the information .
Unfortunately most people will never know the joys of network marketing because of the stigma that is attached to it. they think all us network marketers do to drum up business is hard sell to friends and family.
Well, thanks to the internet, that is a thing of the past. All your business can be done online without having to hard sell people. But they don’t know that and never will.
Thanks to blogs like this, we can get the word out that network marketing is a viable business where you can reach your financial dreams if:
1) You work hard
2) You work smart.
Keep up the good work!!
MLM is a business that is not for everyone. It takes a special person to join a network and know that whoever brought you in will be making money off of you and off of everyone that you refer. It is very important that you understand how your compensation is structured within your particular MLM company
Very nice post and advice regarding MLM business ! As Mr. Gamble has rightly commented that MLM business is not for everyone. Those who have a target and determination to earn money and acquire own business through MLM can only be successful.
