MLM Success is All About Attitude

June 10, 2009

Saying that “MLM success is all about attitude” sounds good, and rings true. Overall, attitude determines how you view and react to many different things in your life, both personal and business. Many factors work together to produce a winning attitude for success in MLM and network marketing.

Let’s look at one particular attribute that can make or break your chances for making really good money in MLM.

Julie started her MLM business five years ago, and has stuck with the same opportunity through that time. She has encountered obstacles on top of obstacles (we all do), but has remained determined and focused. The result – she is now #5 in her company for overall earnings, and has achieved what she was shooting for in the first place – freedom from a depressing job and time to spend traveling and enjoying life.

Richard also started his first MLM business five years ago. However, he has always found something wrong with each business and has been continually attracted to greater opportunity elsewhere. As a result, he is now “working” his 7th MLM opportunity in five years. He has made very little money, but has spent a ton of time and energy doing it.

The attribute we’re talking about here is “ability to focus and remain steady for the long term“. This is what sets MLM winners apart from those who never seem to find any success. Julie was determined to reach her goals, and carefully chose her company and opportunity. She made a commitment to achieve her goals with that opportunity, and she did.

Richard is what some people call an “MLM junkie”. These are career MLM’ers who have been seeking the “magic solution” to making money, and have been doing so for years. Sometime they are easily persuaded to launch another opportunity because they’re always looking for something better and easier. Other times, they seem programmed to find something wrong, some reason that they aren’t making money after a few months.

My upline stinks. I don’t get enough support. The products are too expensive. The compensation plan only pays the big guys. And on and on.

MLM junkies aren’t necessarily lazy. Many of them work opportunities hard for a few months, see some success, but get frustrated and quit before the good stuff has had time to happen. They often think, with their work ethic, they should be making big bucks after a few months. So, they are easily drawn in by clever and convincing sales pitches the “gurus” throw at them. It’s a shame.

Don’t be an MLM junkie.

Take your business seriously. Do you REALLY want to make money and get out of a bad job? Do you REALLY want to stay home with your kids? Whatever your reasons are, be sure they are really important to you.

Then, take your time and find a solid opportunity with products you like and feel good about using and sharing with others. You will be committing a lot of time and energy to building your business, so this is not a decision to take lightly.

You must feel your product and opportunity is simply the best out there. Don’t skip this important step. It’s easy to sign up for an MLM business because it looks great on the surface and you see tons of enthusiasm – but hold off and do careful research before you jump in.

Absolutely true that attitude makes a big difference in our business. Having been working in sales I notice more and more every day that the thoughts I hold in my mind tend to get reflected back at me through the people I interact with on a daily basis. It’s an amazing thing to experience because it really makes me wonder what is possible in this world if only we adopt the kind of attitude that will attract to us the opportunities we truly desire.

I think that, just like we tend to copy what our mentors do, people whom we sponsor will duplicate everything that they see us doing as well and if we are the kind of person who jumps between deals then all our followers will do the same, making it so much more difficult for us to succeed. Therefore if we stick to what we believe to be good then our followers will do the same and we are able to build a stronger organization over time.
