Would You Like to Do Some Selling?
November 28, 2008
If you’re looking at network marketing or MLM opportunities, you may want to back away when you realize that “selling” might be involved.
My experience is that some people actually enjoy sales, but most want no part of it. I think the problem is what they think “selling” means.
Nobody likes to be “sold” anything, right? Most everyone likes to buy, but being “sold” implies something that happens against your will.
It might seem that “selling” means trying to convince people to buy or do something that they probably wouldn’t ordinarily buy or do. Understanding this, it is easy to see why you might hate the idea of sales.
When you think of sales, an image of the stereotypical pushy and “say whatever it takes” salesperson may come to mind. You know, “Fast Freddie” or “Honest John”. Nobody wants to be associated with the type of selling those images stir up.
The good news is, this isn’t really what true sales is all about. True selling involves sharing information, finding the needs of the other people, and meeting that need with your product or service. Without pressure or hype.
Forget the pushy, arrogant sales-types you’ve encountered in the past. In network marketing, you won’t be doing anything like that at all. You’ll be working with people who come to you because they are looking for a home business opportunity. They want to find a way to make money from home. Your job will be to share information and help them decide if your business with meet their need. It is all low-key and professional.
Think about this. You really do sales every day of your life. If you tell me you can’t sell, you’re trying to sell me on the fact that you can’t sell. All of life involves selling something, in one way or another. If you ever interview for a job, you are trying to sell yourself and your services. You just don’t realize or acknowledge that what you are doing is selling.
Don’t let a reluctance to “sell” stop you from getting involved in network marketing. Change your thinking. Work your business as a professional who shares information and solutions with prospects who are actively looking for these things. It’s a fulfilling and enjoyable process that will pay you back many times over!
